Fans of the beloved soap opera EastEnders were left scratching their heads after a significant editing oversight occurred in a recent episode. Viewers noticed a rather glaring mistake when an actor was heard having his lines whispered to him during a scene, which should have been edited out before airing.
This incident took place during the episode that aired on February 2, where Aaron Thiara portrayed Ravi Gulati and James Farrar appeared as Zack Hudson, all within the familiar setting of the Queen Vic pub. In one particular moment, viewers could distinctly hear a voice off-screen quietly prompting Aaron with the line, "I can't even speak to my kids about it right now.” Aaron then delivered this line immediately after the whisper, leading many to speculate whether he was struggling to recall his dialogue. While it's not uncommon for actors to receive such prompts during filming, these whispers are typically removed in post-production to maintain the flow of the story.
Around 23 minutes into the episode, sharp-eyed fans caught this mishap and quickly took to TikTok to share their astonishment. One user called attention to the error, urging the BBC to enhance their quality control measures. Accompanying their commentary with a clip from the episode, they exclaimed, "How did this get approved? Turn up the volume and listen closely. Someone is whispering Ravi’s line to him: ‘I can’t even speak to my kids about it right now.’" The user added a friendly reminder that their intention was not to disparage the actors or the production team but rather to highlight a mistake that has become increasingly noticeable in recent broadcasts. They expressed hope that someone at the BBC would take notice and work towards improving the quality of the show's output.
This isn’t the first slip-up EastEnders has encountered this year. Earlier, during the New Year's flashforward segment, the show introduced Stephen Aaron-Sipple in the role of Mark Fowler Jr. However, his identity was obscured as he was credited merely as 'Man', leaving audiences in suspense. Interestingly, during a scene where audio description was provided, the narrator referred to him as 'Mark', igniting questions among fans regarding his actual character.
One viewer shared their thoughts on social media, noting, "The audio description identified the man Max waved at as ‘Mark’—the same mystery figure who was involved in that conversation with Lauren, Oscar, Peter, and Jack. Is this Mark Fowler Jr?" Like many viewers, actor Stephen was also kept in the dark about his character’s identity during auditions, which added an element of surprise when he discovered his role.
Reflecting on his time on set, Stephen shared, "It’s been absolutely incredible. There have been so many moments where I have to pause and appreciate that I’m acting alongside such talented individuals, including Steve McFadden, Gillian Taylforth, and Adam Woodyatt, just to name a few. When I auditioned, I had no idea I was trying out for Mark Fowler Jr., so the confirmation was thrilling. On my first day of shooting, I had a break and asked if I could walk around Albert Square to soak it all in. It was surreal to transition from a viewer to being there in person—an unforgettable experience."
